Have you joined our crew for an immersive water excursion before? If not, you might be sitting at home or in your hotel room wondering exactly what to bring on a kayak tour to keep your family comfortable, safe, and happy.

Launching out onto our stunning local waterways is an absolute blast, but being properly prepared for the elements can truly make or break your day.

At Paradise Adventures Sarasota, FL, we have a deep passion for ensuring your time on the water is as smooth, relaxing, and memorable as possible.

We pride ourselves on offering exceptional value by handling just about everything you could possibly need for a flawless launch. In fact, like we love to say around here, “The only thing we don’t do for you is paddle!”

At a Glance: What Paradise Adventures Provides for You

Before you even start opening up your suitcases, let’s look at the premium gear that is already waiting for your arrival at our trailer:

  • Your Watercraft and Paddle: High-quality, ultra-stable sit-on-top kayaks paired with lightweight fiberglass paddles.
  • Safety Gear: Properly fitted, Coast Guard-approved life jackets (PFDs) equipped with emergency safety whistles.
  • Hydration Basics: We throw in a complimentary, ice-cold bottle of water to help you kickstart your trip.
  • Electronics Protection: Professional-grade dry bags and dry boxes to safely store your loose valuables.
  • Navigation Support: If you choose a flexible private rental instead of a guide, we supply a laminated map of the mangrove tunnels so you always know where to go.

Sun Protection: Battling the Florida Heat

When you show up to paddle for the day, it is incredibly important to remember that the Florida sun can be intense throughout the year.

Protecting your skin and eyes is the absolute number one priority.

1. Defending Your Skin and Eyes

To ensure nobody leaves the water with a painful sunburn, we highly recommend packing these sun-defense staples:

  • Reef-Safe Sunscreen:

Apply a broad-spectrum sunscreen before you arrive at the park, and pack the bottle in your bag for quick reapplication.

  • A Wide-Brimmed Hat:

A baseball cap or a wide-brimmed sun hat is an absolute lifesaver for keeping the direct glare out of your eyes and protecting your face.

  • Polarized Sunglasses:

Sunglasses are highly recommended, and polarized lenses are even better because they cut the glare on the surface, making it much easier to see dolphins and manatees swimming below!

2. Smart Clothing Choices

Wearing the right gear can keep you beautifully cool and protected while you paddle. Here is what works best:

  • Sun-Protective Clothing:

Lightweight, moisture-wicking shirts or long-sleeve rash guards with a UPF rating offer maximum defense without making you overheat.

  • Water-Resistant Clothing:

Wear comfortable swim trunks, board shorts, or athletic wear that you don’t mind getting a little saltwater splash on.

  • Secure Footwear:

Sandals with a heel strap or water shoes are ideal. Avoid flip-flops, as they can easily slip off and float away when you are getting in and out of your kayak.

Simple Extras to Pack in Your Bag

While we cover your heavy gear and safety equipment, packing a few small personal extras will keep your energy levels high and your memories completely preserved.

  • Extra Drinking Water:

Kayaking is an active outdoor sport! While we provide your first bottle of water, we highly recommend bringing along extra hydration for your group.

  • Light Family Snacks:

Paddling works up a serious appetite, especially for young children. Throwing a few granola bars, fruit pouches, or pretzels into your dry bag is a fantastic way to keep everyone happy and energized.

  • A Waterproof Action Camera:

If you have a GoPro or an underwater camera, definitely bring it along! Winding through the shaded mangrove tunnels and watching marine life up close provides endless photo opportunities.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will my personal belongings get wet while I am kayaking?

Because you are participating in a water sport, you should always expect a few minor splashes of saltwater over the sides of the boat! However, your keys, wallet, and cell phones can stay completely dry. We provide complimentary dry bags and dry boxes with every booking. Simply seal your electronics inside before launching, and they will stay completely safe and secure throughout the trip.

What happens if I am running late for my tour or rental?

We operate on a very strict Sarasota County park schedule designed to manage water traffic and protect local marine habitats. Because our time windows are so tightly regulated, operators absolutely cannot accommodate late arrivals. Latecomers cannot be launched under any circumstances. Please plan your driving time carefully and aim to arrive at the launch site 20 minutes before your scheduled departure to park and check in comfortably.

What is the cancellation policy if my travel plans change?

We offer a very transparent and accommodating policy for our guests. If you need to cancel, please call our office at (941) 275-2971 at least 48 hours before your scheduled launch time to receive a full, 100% refund. If you cancel within that 48-hour window, a cash refund is not available, but we will gladly reschedule your trip at no extra cost or issue a gift card rain check. No-shows cannot be refunded.
